JUMBO
MANUALS
In 1949, Hausemann & Hötte, makers of Jumbo games, comes out with 3 sets: A, B and C. A year later, in 1950, they bring out a completely new progressive series labeled A, B, C and D, with make-up sets AB, BC and CD. The contents of sets A, B and C are different from the initial series. The make-up sets have all the parts to upgrade to the next larger set. So A + AB = B, B + BC = C, etc. Considering the number of make-ups sets available on the second hand market today, many kids did this. Then, in 1951, they add Set E and make-up set DE. This series of 5 progressive sets and 4 make-up sets remains the same until they discontinue Mobaco in 1961. For the initial series, Jumbo has 3 manuals with examples. The manuals are named Example Books A, B and C. These books do not relate to a particular set, instead the models usually required several of the initial sets A, B and C. For the later ABCD series, the manuals are named after the set they belong to: Manual A, B, C and D. With the issuance of Set E, they make a single book A-E, included with all sets. There are several versions of this booklet. Below all Jumbo manuals found so far. For each manual, there is a picture of the cover, thumbnails of each page, and some basic statistics. A link sends you to a page with 100 dpi scans. Where possible, a PDF with 150 dpi scans is provided for downloading. Cover scans are shown at half of actual size, thumbnails at 1/5th actual size. JUMBO MANUAL A-E - COLOR - EARLIER VERSION This booklet is essentially the same as the above B&W version, except that the second page is devoted to a narrative in 4 languages, English, French, German and Spanish, and the third page in Dutch. As a result, there is one fewer page for models. The cover features the older Jumbo logo. If you look closely, there are a few differences to the cover illustration. For instance, two trees disappeared, and the girl's hand was retouched accordingly. The ground plate of the small building was enlarged, and sits closer to the 4x4 ground plate with the bridge. The ground plates are shown thicker. The shadows in the boy's sweater disappeared, and the girl now has a light-colored skirt. ![]() 24 pages (including covers) Covers + 4 center pages: four-color printing (CMYK) Remainder: single color (black) 8 designs for Set A 13 designs for Set B 9 designs for Set C 5 designs for Set D 5 design for Set E Contents for sets A, AB, B, BC, C, CD, D, DE and E See pages DOWNLOAD PDF |

JUMBO MANUAL A-E - COLOR - LATER VERSION This booklet is very similar to the one above except the text on pages two and three is laid out differently. Equal weight is given to each of the five languages, English, Spanish, French, German and Dutch. Also, the header (top edge) of each page is laid out differently, giving it a more modern look.
